At the end of the 50’s or 1959 to be more exact, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) was born on the initiative of the auto insurers with a simple goal preventing accidents and injuries of the vehicle occupants on the U.S. roads.
Now 57 years later IIHS has become one of the most important safety non-profit associations whose tests are rigorous and they force manufacturers to improve the active and passive safety features of the vehicles to a whole new level.
Their newest test includes a crash of the vehicle into a nondeformable barrier with a small overlap that has been the hardest for some vehicles to conquer.
